We start off this session of Eklektoplasm with some sharpish, bouncing, guitar action from Cruising, a conglomerate of Dublin and Belfast bands Sea Pinks, September Girls, Girls Names and Logikparty. Spiky repetitive punk pop that hits the spot. From there Will Ivy brings us into the summery sun shine jangle of If I Was A Painter from his fantastic Scrap Plastic album. Very limited run on this lp but well worth investing, it’s already my go to album for holidaze  sounds. Next up CONDITIONERS – lo-fi: check, post punk: check, addictive foot tapping head nodding fun: check. Slackers show us what happens when the garage rock renaissance meets the russian lo-fi noise pop scene. It’s a beautiful mutant sound. From here the general sense of this mix moves into a darker, bassy, more ambient space. Windings poem on the sadness and worry of frequently hearing the rescue helicopter flying above is deeply affective and the forthcoming album is one to look forward to with the change in sound here. Kaiju drops the dope dubs before MJ Guider properly lift us into the ether. Lakker, Dreamcrusher, JK Flesh and DJ Hotel bring a dose of harshness and off kilter ramblings into the proceedings before another change with The Cult Of Dom Keller. One of my favourite psych outfits around Goodbye To The Light is their third lp proper and the single Broken Arm Of God lays out the stall: epic, thundering, riffs tripping into oblivion!

After an excellent self titled ep towards the end of 2014 Gross Net returns with a full album of austere 80’s industrial inflected agit pop. Really really good shit. Another artist maturing into a more expansive and rewarding sound is Torn Hawk. The brass and orchestral touches to Borderlands are beautiful. Similarly pretty and beguiling are Panamint Manse. But we blow all that out of the water with some straight up proto-grunge from Head Exploder. There’s hints of Melvins, Husker Du and even some electro synth pop musings! Who could follow that up but Eklektoplasm favourites Unqualified Nurse Band, I really don’t need to extoll the virtues of these short sharp shock n rollers at this point. There are whisperings of Irish gigs later in the year when their debut lp is released which would be superb. We take things back down again then with The Stargaze Lilies and This Is The Kit and again off into electronic tech wanderings with Plastiq Phantom, Silent Servant and UMFANG. A reprise to punk pop fuel injection with Kathleen Hanna’s The Julie Ruin who are back with a second lp and the world is such a better place for it.

We finish up this excursion first with an epic drone drenched meander from Daniel Provenzano, one half of The Writhing Squares (They have their first lp out soon so watch out for a track from that on the next podcast). To fully finish out a languid, psyched country cut from Psychic Ills new one. “I don’t want to be all alone”, indeed.

Catch ya next time kids.
